Known locally as "Christmas Street," this South Philly block has kept its informal community light tradition going for more than half a century. Decorations spill beyond the houses onto islands in the middle of the road, and a special mailbox collects children's letters to Santa.
Best time to arrive. Sunset in Philadelphia is around 4:36 PM in mid-December, fully dark by about 5:07 PM. A typical December night here bottoms out near 32°F, so dress for standing around outside.
